YAOKI Prepared for Liftoff Aboard Intuitive Machines Lunar Lander

Tokyo, Japan – February 25, 2025 – Dymon announced that its lunar rover YAOKI is loaded aboard the Intuitive Machines Nova-C class lunar lander, Athena. The mission, targeted for launch no earlier than February 26, is the second trip to the Moon’s surface for Intuitive Machines.

YAOKI is one of three assets that aim to deliver critical commercial and civil infrastructure service payloads to the Moon’s south pole under NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative.

The IM-2 mission is designed to enable future lunar exploration by validating water-hunting infrastructure, determining the composition and concentration of potentially accessible resources, and demonstrating lunar surface communication technologies.

This mission aims to broaden scientists’ understanding of the universe and pave the way for a more sustainable future. By establishing infrastructure for future exploration, the lunar surface becomes a steppingstone to create economies deeper into the Solar System.

PY-1 Mission Schedule

  • No earlier than February 27, 2025 (JST): Targeted launch
  • Approximately 8 days after launch: Lunar landing
  • Approximately 5 days after landing: YAOKI lunar surface operation, data acquisition, and transmission
  • Approximately 10 days after landing: Completion of the IM-2 mission
